University of Vermont

Since 1791, the University of Vermont (UVM) has worked to move humankind forward. UVM is a premier research institution focused on sustainable solutions with local, national, and global applications and impact. Our distinctive strengths align with the most pressing needs of our time: the health of our societies and the health of our environment. We are a top research university of a perfect size, large enough to offer a breadth of ideas, resources, and opportunities, yet small enough to enable close faculty-student mentorship across all levels of study, from bachelor’s to M.D. programs.

Our graduate programs

The University of Vermont awarded its first graduate degree in 1807. Today, UVM’s Graduate College offers over 50 programs leading to the master's and over 25 leading to the doctorate degree. These programs span the natural, physical and biological sciences, the social sciences, the humanities, and professional training. Certificates of graduate study that expand knowledge and skills are also available.

Many UVM graduate programs cut across several fields of study. These interdisciplinary programs capitalize on the exceptional strengths of UVM faculty and facilities, especially in biological and biomedical sciences, complex systems and data science, food systems, sustainable business and environmental and ecological programs
