Leaders in 21st-century experiential legal education

Recently voted by preLaw Magazine (2022) as #1 in legal technology in the US, Suffolk Law has been praised for meeting the demands of today’s legal industry. The law school was described as an “innovative force” by  PreLaw Associate Editor Tyler Roberts in his article, How Suffolk Law is redefining practice-ready. 

We focus on equipping our students with the skills and competencies they need to succeed in a shifting cultural and technological landscape. The school’s Dispute Resolution program is ranked #22 by US News and World Report and out of the last eleven years, the program has been ranked in the top 25 for ten of those years. It’s a trailblazing provider of practical mediation and negotiation classroom tools, working alongside the EU and US Department of Justice to create ground-breaking materials used by faculty across the nation. Suffolk Law is the only law school in the country  ranked in the top 20% of all legal skills specialties–clinics, dispute resolution, legal writing, and trial advocacy–in U.S. News & World Report for seven years in a row (2017-23 editions).

Patent lawyers are fundamental to success in a tech-based economy like the one in Massachusetts - a globally-revered hub for ingenuity. In that respect, Suffolk Law is perfectly placed, fostering the most patent law partners in the state's largest IP practices — more than the next two competing law schools combined. Nearly thirty percent of the top IP firm patent partners in Greater Boston are Suffolk Law graduates.

The Suffolk Law Difference

Suffolk is nestled in the heart of the city, surrounded by restaurants, theaters and historic sites. Directly across the street from Suffolk Law is Boston Common, a 50-acre green space and the perfect place to unwind between classes. At the top of the Common is the Massachusetts State House, and several of the law school’s study areas and classrooms look out over its iconic golden dome.

The city itself is welcoming to newcomers and easy to navigate, made up of many accessible neighborhoods, from historic Beacon Hill to Chinatown to the Italian North End. Boston is renowned for its universities, medical centers, and research programs. LL.M. options and SJD

Those not looking to specialize can pursue the General LL.M., but the LL.M. in Global Law and Technology allow students to earn up to two specializations in the following fields:

Suffolk Law also offers the Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) degree, a post LL.M. option awarded upon the completion of an in-depth, publication-quality dissertation.

Suffolk Law does all it can to subsidize the cost of a US legal education, offering substantial merit-based scholarships.  

Applicants are automatically reviewed for merit-based financial aid at the time of admission. Scholarships range from $18,000 to $28,000 and most successful students receive some level of scholarship funding.

In the second semester of your LL.M., there is an opportunity to pursue an externship – an excellent way to put your knowledge into practice. The externship is integrated with your coursework, so you can pursue practice experience at the same time as completing your course requirements. Suffolk LL.M. students work with designated, expert legal career advisors, who assist students in refining job search strategies, honing interview skills, perfecting résumés and cover letters. Former students have interned at state and federal courts, non-profits, corporate offices and local law firms. All placements are tailored to your unique interests and career goals.
