Welcome to British International School, Phuket
Students from over 60 nationalities call British International School, Phuket (BISP) home. The co-educational day and boarding school is located on the magnificent island of Phuket, Thailand, and offers a well-rounded education from early years to secondary school.
Across study levels, BISP’s comprehensive learning philosophy develops the whole child, ensuring students leave with the competencies and confidence needed to succeed in top colleges and universities across Asia and the world.
INTRODUCTION
Character development lies at the core of the school’s educational approach. By nurturing eight key character traits — such as resilience, integrity, and compassion — Steyning empowers students to become academically successful and compassionate contributors to society. This focus on character prepares learners to become 'game changers,' equipped to make a positive impact in their future endeavours.
Key offerings
The BISP curriculum covers a diverse range of subjects. Flexibility to choose is key – the school’s exam centre offers programmes ranging from the International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, SAT, PSAT, LAMDA, and more.
Results are excellent – 91% of IGCSE students received A* - C grades, while the IB Class of 2024 scored an average of 33, three points higher than the global average. All routes offer a rigorous yet fulfilling experience that prepares students for their post-school endeavours.
Students perform equally well on the court, track and field. The school is home to several robust sports academies, enabling learners to combine high-performance athletics alongside their academics. For example, they can benefit from the BISP Cruzeiro Football Academy’s high-level coaching, participate in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, or pursue the exceptional swimming programme.
There’s also BTEC Sport, a practical-based sports programme available in Years 12 to 13 that prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities in the sport and fitness industries, as well as other related fields. Scholarship opportunities are available to those who perform exceptionally well.
Student life
BISP is a true home away from home. Its boarding programme offers students a structured, balanced lifestyle, a strong sense of community, a multicultural environment, and the opportunity to build lifelong friendships. Combined with the glorious tropical weather and incredible facilities spread across its 44-acre campus, life here is hardly described as “uneventful”.
Central to the BISP boarding experience are house parents, who offer guidance, support, and supervision, creating a warm and nurturing environment where students can thrive. At any time of the day, students can seek specialised support services tailored to their individual needs — all thanks to dedicated faculty members who are just as multinational as the students they care for.
Hear from the students
“I’ve been part of this programme for so long and I’ve watched people come and go, and they improve so much both academically and on the pitch. I think it’s a great opportunity if you want to pursue football – you get to experience many competitions around the world, with great coaching staff from Brazil.”
– Finlay Gray
“Living away from my family can be tough, but BISP has truly become my home. The support from both my peers and the staff is what I love most — it’s helped me excel in class while also pursuing high-performance football.”
– Lauren Ruyi
