Welcome to Avans University of Applied Sciences
Established in 2008 as a result of a merger of 3 different institutions, Avans University of Applied Sciences quickly became the best university of applied sciences in the Netherlands — and for good reason. Here, educators focus on addressing the evolving needs of the labour market and the contemporary world of work. One of the ways they do so is by keeping lessons as hands-on as can be.
Hence, Avans is currently home to six impactful Centres of Applied Research: Art, Design & Technology; Caring Society 3.0; Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy; Public Safety and Criminal Justice; Sustainable Business as well as Technical Innovation. Each guarantees rewarding, experiential learning opportunities to students eager to put knowledge into practice.

A practice-based approach to academic excellence
Avans’ learning system combines practice and competency-based education to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills and attitude to apply their newfound competencies in real-life situations.
In addition to industry-aligned coursework, students at Avans participate in two work placements that provide invaluable exposure to professional environments. The university also boasts a robust network of national and international business connections, allowing students to engage with various global companies during their studies.
Future-focused programmes for 21st century aspirants
Avans embraces all aspirations by offering a diverse range of specialised degree programmes. Currently, four stand out for their relevance. The Environmental Science for Sustainability, Ecosystems and Technology programme was designed to teach students the ins and outs of developing solutions to some of our world’s most pressing environmental challenges and spearheading more sustainable practices in businesses.
Those more interested in creating profitability, making investment decisions, applying risk management and presenting effective business plans could pursue the Finance & Control (international) programme. This route focuses on teaching students everything there is to know about finance, accounting and data management. Meanwhile, the International Business programme instils broad knowledge of international management, marketing, organisations, finance and sustainability to ensure graduates thrive in doing business across cross-cultural settings and expanding companies internationally.
