Where graduates become environmental custodians
Location
The University of Plymouth sits on the idyllic South Devon coastline at the very centre of the city. It is surrounded by a stunning natural landscape of south west England, National Parks, and a 650 mile-long coastline providing the backdrop from which global sustainability challenges are addressed.
Biological sciences
At Plymouth, degrees in the biological sciences are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology. Each is laced with hands-on fieldwork both locally and internationally. Students explore their interests in a well-stocked laboratory and resource centre. To apply knowledge, they participate in year-long optional work placements.
Marine Biology
Plymouth’s marine biology students advance their knowledge in the university’s Marine Station — a landmark 5 million pound coastal teaching and research facility. Students are even transported to Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, and France to further explore their passions.
Marine science
Marine science students also use the Marine Station to move seamlessly between the classroom and bespoke research boats, equipped with the latest oceanographic instrumentation, and specialist software. Experiential lessons are offered through residential field trips to South Africa, Isles of Scilly, and the Bahamas.
