Voted #1 in legal technology in the US by PreLaw Magazine, Suffolk University Law School has earned a national reputation for meeting and anticipating the demands of today’s legal industry. In How Suffolk Law Is Redefining Practice-Ready, PreLaw Associate Editor Tyler Roberts described the school as an “innovative force,” recognising its role in reshaping how future lawyers are trained.

That reputation is closely tied to the leadership of Dean Andrew Perlman. Named one of National Jurist’s Most Influential People in Legal Education (2024), Perlman is widely regarded as a pioneer in legal education. Prior to becoming dean, he played a central role in launching Suffolk Law’s groundbreaking Legal Innovation and Technology (LIT) Concentration — an initiative that earned a Top 10 Innovator (2023) distinction from Bloomberg Law.

Under Perlman’s leadership, Suffolk Law and its faculty remain focused on one core goal: equipping students with the skills, judgment, and adaptability required to succeed in a rapidly evolving legal landscape. The school’s Dispute Resolution programme, ranked #18 nationally by US News & World Report and placed among the top 30 for 13 of the last 14 years, exemplifies this commitment.

Innovation at Suffolk Law also extends into intellectual property and patent law. Recognised by PreLaw Magazine as one of the Top 12 Most Innovative Law Schools, Suffolk is strategically positioned in Massachusetts — one of the world’s most influential technology and innovation hubs. As a result, the school has produced more patent law partners at the state’s largest IP firms than the next two competing law schools combined.

Suffolk Law is the only law school in the US to rank in the top 20% across all legal skills specialties — clinics, dispute resolution, legal writing, and trial advocacy — for 10 consecutive years.

Suffolk University Law School sits in the heart of downtown Boston, surrounded by restaurants, theatres, and historic landmarks. Directly across the street is Boston Common, a 50-acre green space where students often unwind between classes. At its edge stands the Massachusetts State House — its iconic golden dome visible from several Suffolk Law classrooms and study spaces.

Boston is welcoming, walkable, and easy to navigate, with distinct neighbourhoods ranging from historic Beacon Hill to Chinatown and the Italian North End. Known globally for its universities, medical centres, and research institutions, the city also offers a vibrant cultural life — professional sports teams year-round, world-class museums, historic sites, and diverse shopping districts — all within easy reach of campus.

The Suffolk Law Difference

From day one, Suffolk University Law School supports students well beyond the classroom. Dedicated teams assist with visa, immigration, and housing needs, helping students settle smoothly into life in Boston. Once on campus, students have access to personalised, one-on-one advising, career counselling, and networking events designed to build confidence and professional connections.

That support continues throughout the LLM. In the second semester, students can take part in an externship integrated directly into their coursework, allowing them to gain hands-on legal experience while completing their degree. Suffolk’s legal career advisors work closely with each student to refine job-search strategies, strengthen interview skills, and polish résumés and cover letters. Past placements have included state and federal courts, non-profits, corporate offices, and local law firms — each aligned with students’ individual interests and long-term career goals.
